All-Around Best GPS for under $ 200?
The Triton 400 Magellan seems to be the best GPS for $ 200. However, being a GPS newb I'm not quite sure whether I am looking features are just gimmicks. Is there a better GPS for your money with similar characteristics? (SD card compatible, color display, Rough / wproof, add unlimited maps, North America basemap) Triton The base map actually have all of North America Lakes / roads / etc or whatever you need to buy yet this map? Did the lost signal Triton so much? Is it really that much easier interface in a Garmin Magellan? What company is easier to treat if problems should arise? Will the Triton series has major flaws or problems? Is there a website that contains many of these simple answers? If someone is able to respond to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated as I want to buy one as soon as possible. Thanks
Whoa, for Please listen to me. The Magellan Triton is a horrible series of GPS receivers. I have been following GPS receivers for about five years, and they are just unfortunate. Many of the accidents, lack of features, the odometer inaccurate, slow performance, and Magellan does not care. They have been very slow to release the firmware updates. Magellan Customer Service years was good, but as the two changes of ownership, has gone down the toilet. Their technical support is in India, and all they do is to read scripts. They are educated, but not useful. The Triton does not provide step by step instructions, and Magellan has not released any new maps in two years. The base map of Triton, from what I read, is the worst Magellan has released in years. The Meridian and eXplorists (both discontinued) had better base maps. One individual went so far as the replacement of Triton base map with that of his eXplorist. I have owned three eXplorists Magellan. I've been pleased with them, but stopped recommending Magallanes after witnessing the debacle of Triton. I would say that the probability of being happy with the Garmin is much better than happy with the Magellan. Garmin released firmware updates more often, even for discontinued models. This shows that they want to continue supporting its clients. Magellan just leaves you hanging. Garmin support, although not as good as before, still sometimes surprises people by the replacement of broken units that are out of warranty or damaged by the fault of the user.
